Oscars journey of PH film 'Signal Rock' ends

An official entry to the Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) 2018 “Signal Rock” did not advance to the “shortlists in consideration” for the coming Oscars. In the latest announcement of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on their official website, the title was nowhere to be found in any of the nine categories, namely Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, and Visual Effects. It was a few months ago that Regal Entertainment confirmed on their official Facebook page that the Chito Roño’s film is the Philippines’ official entry to the Foreign Language Film category of the 2019 Academy Awards.

A scene from ‘Signal Rock’ “Signal Rock,” is about Intoy, a carefree no-hoper in a small town, who is suddenly called to help his sister in Finland win a child custody battle. The movie was shot in Biri, Samar. The cast includes Christian Bables, Elora Españo, Mara Lopez, Francis Magundayao, and the veterans actors Menggie Cobarrubias, Joel Saracho, Daria Ramirez, Arnold Reyes, Nanding Josef, Archie Adamos, Sue Prado, JayR Versales, Keana Reeves, Julia Chua, Kokoy De Santos, Jomari Angeles, Ruby Ruiz, Mon Confiado, Ces Quesada, Lee O'Brian, Dido Dela Paz, and many more.
