38-year-old helper dies in his sleep in parking lot
A 38-year-old helper allegedly died in his sleep in a parking lot in Sta. Mesa Manila on Thursday morning, a belated report showed.
The police identified the victim as Arnel Lamadera, resident of Marscon Sto. Thomas, Davao City.
Investigation showed that at around 1:00 a.m. on Dec, 13, Jonel Peña, the victim’s supervisor heard him moaning while sleeping. The next morning, when their supervisor called for a short meeting, Lamadera was the only one who was not present.
Moments later, their supervisor instructed Edmund Abrea to check the victim, however, he noticed that the victim was not breathing on Dec. 13 at about 7:55 a.m. at a parking lot on V. Mapa corner Valenzuela Streets, Sta. Mesa Manila.
Investigator on case SPO3 Jonathan Bautista said the victim confided to his coworkers a week ago that he was frequently having a bad dream while sleeping at their site.
Bautista said the victim was last seen alive on Dec. 12 at around 9:00 p.m. while he was busy playing games on his phone.
Closer examination showed there was no sign of any physical injury.
The body was brought to Cruz Funeral Parlor for autopsy and safekeeping. (Erma Edera)
Motorcycle rider dies after collision with commuter van
A motorcycle rider died after his vehicle collided with a commuter van in a late night road accident in Pasay City on Friday.
The victim was identified by police as Aldie Paglangan, 37, a resident of 1133 Unida St., Baclaran, Parañaque City. Paglangan was declared dead on arrival at the Pasay City General Hospital.
Investigation showed that the incident occurred at around 11:15 in the evening along Sunrise Drive corner EDSA Extension, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
According to investigators, a Toyota Hi-Ace Commuter Van driven by Efren Añonuevo, 32, was traveling along the southbound lane of Sunrise Drive, SM Mall of Asia and upon reaching the place of the incident, Paglangan who was driving a Honda motorcycle suddenly appeared coming from the EDSA Extension East.
Police said that Paglangan turned right to Sunrise Drive and in the process, the front portion of their vehicles collided.
Due to the force of the impact, Paglangan sustained severe injuries and was rushed by the Pasay City Rescue ambulance to the hospital where he later died. (Dhel Nazario)
Police inspector ambushed by riding-in-tandem
A police inspector who was on his way home with his wife after his duty was ambushed by two motorcycle-riding men in Quezon City Friday afternoon.
Initial investigation from the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said Inspector Romeo Tandas, 49, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds on his body.
It appears that Tandas was assigned at the QCPD Tactical Operations Center at the QCPD Headquarters in Camp Karingal.
According to investigators, Tandas was on board his blue Toyota Avanza with conduction sticker UF-5745 driven by his common-law wife Marissa Opiniado and traversing Commonwealth Avenue on their way home to Barangay Commonwealth around 5:45 p.m. after his duty.
Upon reaching the corner of University Lane in Barangay UP Campus, two men riding a black motorcycle suddenly appeared on the side of Tandas who was at the passenger’s seat.
The back rider suddenly pulled a handgun and repeatedly shot Tandas through the vehicle's windshield hitting him on the different parts of his body before escaping the scene.
Opinionado immediately sought help from police officers and rushed Tandas to Diliman Hospital where he eventually died.
Further investigation is still ongoing while police have yet to establish if the motive of the gunman in the incident is either work-related or personal. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)
Man survives attack by motorcycle-riding men
A man survived an attack by two men on board a motorcycle in Caloocan City on Friday dawn.
Police identified the victim as Rafael Santos, 45, businessman, resident of Navarro Street, Barangay 177, Caloocan City.
Investigation showed that Santos was about to leave his house at 4:28 a.m. when two armed men wearing helmets and riding a motorcycle drove passing him.
The back rider alighted from the vehicle, approached the victim, and fired at him twice using a gun of undetermined caliber.
However, the gunman missed and Santos was able to snatch the firearm from him.
The two men quickly fled the area while Santos sought police assistance.
Investigation is ongoing for the possible identification and arrest of the assailants. (Minka Tiangco)
Fetus found inside plastic bag in Caloocan
A fetus was found inside a plastic bag in Barangay 31, Caloocan City on Thursday evening.
Investigation showed that a certain Raymond Achias was walking along Bagong Sibal corner Binangonan Street when he saw a plastic bag containing a blood-stained towel and t-shirt.
Upon checking, he saw the fetus inside.
Achias sought assistance from barangay officials who directed the matter to police authorities.
The fetus was brought to Eusebio Funeral Homes.
