Pangasinan dialect monument unveiled in Lingayen

By Jojo Riñoza LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), together with the provincial government on Thursday unveiled the 11th Bantayog-Wika sa Filipinas at the center island of Maramba Boulevard in this town on Thursday. The Bantayog-Wika is a creation of sculptor Luis E. Yee. The 10-foot bamboo-like monument is made of stainless steel. Andres Bonifacio’s “Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa” is written in Pangasinan and Filipno. The Baybayin translation is engraved around it and illuminated at night. Present during the unveiling were Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino III, Vice Governor Ferdinand Calimlim and other distinguihed geusts and officials. The KWF recognizes the local dialect as of ther the major languages in the country, considering Pangasinan’s population of almost three million. It is commonly used in cities and towns of Basista, Baymbang, Binmaley, Calasioao, Dugapan, Lingayen, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Mangatarem, Mapandan, Pozzorubio, San Carlos, San Fabian, Sta. Barbara and Urbiztondo. It also spoken in towns of Anao, Camiling, Tarlac City, Mayantoc, Moncada, Paniqui, Pura, Ramos, San Clemente, San Manuel, Santa Ignacia and Victoria in the province of Tarlac. KWF aims to put up more Bantayog-Wika Filipnas of more than 130 different native languages all over the country to be part of our national heritage.
