PH bet fails to advance in Miss World fast-track event, apologizes

Miss Philippines Katarina Rodriguez, who is competing in Miss World 2018 pageant in China, apologized yesterday after she failed to advance in one of the fast-track events of the longest-running beauty contest. "I wanted to say I am so sorry to all of the people who worked on this Beauty with a Purpose (BWAP) project with me. It may have been because of specific guidelines, which I was unfortunately unaware of, that I did not even cross for the top 20 BWAPs this year for Miss World," says Rodriguez, in a post on Facebook. Rodriguez was referring to her charity program dubbed "Project Become" aims to build schools in Marawi City, to invest in educators, and to provide instruction materials for kids. BWAP is one of the fast-track events for Miss World pageant. Winners of the fast-track competitions will automatically advance to the semis. So far, candidates who have advanced to the semi-finals were France (Top Model), Japan (Talent), Sports (Miss United States), and Multimedia (Nepal). There are 118 candidates competing in this years' contest. The grand coronation of 68th Miss World pageant will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8. The full post of Rodriguez: "I have accomplished many things in 26 years but by far this is my proudest. No crown, nor title could come close to the purpose #ProjectBecome has opened me to; "This is my whole heart. Everything I am has been put into this project and into this dream. I guarantee I will only ever speak and show the truth and this video does exactly that. It hurt me that I did not qualify for BWAP more than anything else has in the past because I wanted the world to see what war and violence does to real life people; "Miss World has guidelines and sadly, I had no briefing about them before creating my BWAP, other than the time limit. I owe an apology to Mrs. Morley and the Miss World Organization as well for not having followed the set guidelines. I meant no disrespect and wish I had known. I also wanted to say thank you for generating this powerful channel for us to give our hearts to. Nevertheless as I’ve said you can only ever expect truth from me; "My BWAP is reality. It’s a reality in Marawi, in Syria, in Myanmar, in Chile, India, Libya, South Africa, Palestine, Ecuador and in communities where discrimination against race, religion, gender and culture occur.; "Where Peace lacks, everything else becomes present. Peace education is so important because it will teach the children and youth the differences between people and promote acceptance over exclusion. It’s a simple solution to war & violence and other stigmas WORLD WIDE. My BWAP focuses now on the community in Marawi, but my vision for the Teach Peace Build Peace Movement is GLOBAL; "Kilala niyo po ako nang lubusan at alam niyo rin pong lahat na may paniniwala akong ang mga limitasyon natin ay nasa isip lamang. Ano man po ang magiging kapalaran ko sa nalalapit na Miss World 2018 finals, ipagpapatuloy ko pa rin po ang napili kong adbokasiya. Ito po ay inaalay ko sa mga kabataan ng mga susunod pang henerasyon," says Rodriguez.
