The reopening of the world-famous resort island, Boracay, is being celebrated across the archipelago with millions of Filipinos giving it a thumbs up. Clean, tepid waters and stretches of white sand welcomed the first batch of tourists there, making the country’s gem a safe and environmentally-sustainable island for people from all walks of life. The big ado is made more relevant with the government pushing tourism in the area earnestly with a slew of fresh, new set of rules in order to maintain all the efforts in its high standing. As if to put an exclamation to the whole thing, out comes the song “Hanep Sa Saya Sa Boracay,” a catchy ditty now ensconced deep in our brain no thanks to social media. Klariz Laurelle Magboo, or simply DJ Kara to her radio listeners, owns the voice behind this jingle. It is composed by Robster Evangelista and arranged by Benjie Pating, Jr. DJ KARA at the Manila Bulletin office (Photo by Alvin Veri) DJ KARA at the Manila Bulletin office (Photo by Alvin Veri) In an exclusive interview with Bulletin Entertainment, DJ Kara said the jingle was personally offered to her. She didn’t give a second thought on accepting the project, believing it was indeed a good opportunity for a striving singer like her. “To be honest, I feel very honored. It’s once in a lifetime opportunity, especially that Boracay is one of the hot topics these days,” she said in Filipino. DJ Kara admitted she initially worried she couldn’t give justice to a song that is upbeat, given that she is a balladeer. “It turns out, ‘Kaya ko pala!’” she exclaimed. “Some of my friends said the song gives them ‘LSS (Last Song Syndrome).’ It gives good vibes to the listeners. It gives a quick tour on what to expect in Boracay -- everything from the beach up to the bars.” The official music video “Hanep Sa Saya Sa Boracay” is uploaded on DJ Kara’s YouTube account. It has already garnered almost 40 thousand of views as of this writing. On it, DJ Kara is seen exploring the beauty of Boracay wearing, of course, a swimsuit. “It’s an amazing video. Those who watch it will surely book a plane going to Boracay immediately,” she said. Last April, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Boracay’s closure for six months over environmental violations. He expressed concern that the white-sand resort has become a “cesspool” tainted by dumped sewage. DJ Kara, who has been a resident visitor of Boracay, attested to the significant changes in the island, saying “Everything is worth it.” +++ Here’s the lyrics of ‘Hanep Sa Saya Sa Boracay (The Happiest Island In The World)’ Intro: Tara na sa Boracay, Tara na sa Boracay!
