Vice President Leni Robredo loves to spend time with children as much as she reads a book, titled “Digong Dilaw,” to them.
Robredo, who visits schools to conduct and promote reading activities, ended on Tuesday her Metro Laylayan visit by reading the children’s book in a daycare center in Tondo, Manila.

This was the second time that she read the same book to children after she held a storytelling session with students of Manuel Garza Elementary School in Calabanga, Camarines Sur last year.
“Digong Dilaw” is a children’s book that tells the story of a boy who only likes yellow things and has the power to turn them to such color. Adarna published it in 2003.
“Iyong sa CamSur actually, first time ko nakita iyon. Naaliw ako kasi, parang, iyong irony, saka iyong representation,” she told reporters on the sidelines of her Metro Laylayan trip.
(In CamSur, actually, that’s the first time I saw it. I was amused because of the irony, including the representation.)
The Vice President was referring to the irony that Digong, which is the nickname of President Rodrigo Duterte, likes yellow, the color of the political party, Liberal Party, of which she is chair.
Yellow, popularly known as “dilawan,” is a derogatory term many diehard Duterte supporters use to describe a person who is against the Chief Executive and his policies.
Robredo said it was the Dubredo Army and not her who chose the children’s book for her reading activity with preschoolers at the Tondo daycare center.
“Binigay lang sa akin noong... Iyong Dubredo Army, actually, iyong pumili ng story. Dapat sila iyong magbabasa, kaya lang noong pumasok ako hindi pa sila nakakabasa, sa akin ipinasa,” she said.
(The book was only given to me by…the Dubredo Army, actually, chose the story. They should be the one to read it, but when I entered the room, they haven’t read it so it was passed to me.)
“Pero maganda naman iyong kuwento. Napakalaki noong aral para sa mga bata,” Robredo added.
(But the story is nice. It has an important lesson to the children.)
