A Filipino-Italian model who is also a rising football player and a chef is set to represent the Philippines in the Mr. Supranational 2018 pageant which will be held in Poland on Dec. 8.
Marco Poli
(MANILA BULLETIN) Marco Poli, who stands 6'3, has embarked on an intensive training regimen and high-definition diet for the contest. He has also been brushing up on Polish culture and current events in anticipation of the highly-anticipated question-and-answer segment. Asked if he would be the country’s first Mr. Supranational title holder from the Philippines, Poli says: "I am confident about it and at the same time, I just want to enjoy the show. But I also need confidence to overcome my fears and challenges in the pageant." Poli, 25, says that he is so excited to represent the Philippines in a pageant abroad. "I still can’t believe I will represent the Philippines in Mr. Supranational pageant. I’m really so excited to represent the Philippines," he said during an interview at the Good Guys Steak and Jazz Restaurant in Kamuning, Quezon City recently. He also considers his journey to the Poland pageant an important part of his life. "This is important because I will represent the Philippines in the international field. And it’s a good way for us to become friendly with the Polish. It’s also a good way to promote Filipino culture to the rest of the world." The Fil-Italian entrepreneur also says that the future of Philippine football is bright. "Compared to three years ago, all the games are only in Manila. But now it is in Davao, Cebu, Ilocos. So it’s really growing all over the Philippines," says Poli. He adds: "I used to play football since I was a kid. Right now, if I were to choose a football team right now, it’s going to be the Philippines. Everyone wants to play in Europe because football, there is, like, a religion and it’s very competitive. Of course I’m competitive in football and it’s always an honor to represent the Philippines." Poli is also a chef who used to work in a restaurant. "I do appetizers. My specialty is Italian food like bread, pizza. I was born and raised in Udine, Italy and I went to college there. Then I came to the Philippines." Miss/Mr. World Philippines National Director Arnold Vegafria believes that Marco can win the crown and eventually pave the way for acceptance of male pageants in the country. "Just like our winning beauty queens, I am confident Marco and our other male pageant titlists are very passionate about being our country's best ambassadors of goodwill. Through their talents and winning personalities, it's only a matter of time before our gentlemen make a strong presence in the global male pageant scene," Vegafria says. Vegafria also urges netizens to help Poli top the Mr. Supranational 2018 online polls.
