(C) Wikipedia Malacañang has declared November 26 a special non-working holiday in this city. The declaration was contained in Proclamation 625 that Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea signed, with the authority of President Duterte, last November 13. Mayor Elpidio "Pidi" F. Barzaga, his wife 4th District Representative Jennifer A. Barzaga, and other local officials will lead the founding day celebration that goes with the staging of the Paru-Paro Festival. Aside from the founding anniversary and city-hood celebration, the Paru-Paro Festival also goes with the city celebrations of the feast day of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 and Christmas. For this city, the colorful "paru-paro (butterfly)" is a universal symbol of change, transformation and celebration. “The birth of a butterfly starts with an egg and becomes a butterfly larva (also known as a caterpillar) where it grows quickly. It sheds from its chrysalis and flies off to new life. The butterfly has a strong correlation to the city,” the mayor said. The festival is an annual event that features the metamorphosis of Dasmariñas from being a barrio to becoming one of the most fast developing cities in the country. The butterfly metamorphosis resembles Dasmariñas which took undertakings through the years to becoming a progressive city. The city celebration activities, among them a parade and street dance, will showcase the Dasmarineños’ artistry and ingenuity in visual and performing arts. Residents and local and foreign tourists have witnessed the celebrations in the past. The first "Paru-Paro" Festival was launched in November 26, 2011 coinciding with Dasmariñas' second city-hood anniversary. The city is the province’s most populous area with an estimated 1 million people (at daytime) and deemed most progressive in terms of economy with the turf's industries, businesses, health and educational institutions, subdivisions, tourist spots and infrastructures. Dasmariñas was a barrio of Imus town until it was declared a town on May 12,1864. After 145 years of being a municipality, it was declared a city on November 26, 2009. “Paru-Paro” is the official festival insignia of Dasmariñas as declared in Resolution No. 069-s-2011 and Special Ordinance 02-s-2011 approved by the Council and then Mayor Jennifer Barzaga. “The City of Dasmariñas is a perfect example that positive metamorphosis can happen if there is unity and determination. For years to come, the Paru-Paro Festival will continue to symbolize the city's unhesitating willingness to embrace change just like the butterflies basking in the sun with their wings wide open," Mayor Barzaga said.
