Six-day holiday of brokers, truckers to oppose gov't phaseout of old trucks

(PHOTO/ ALVIN KASIBAN/ MANILA BULLETIN) Several truck groups joined the protest caravan that occupied one lane along Bonifacio Drive, Tondo, Manila early morning of Nov. 19. In a statement, Alliance of Philippine Broker and Trucker Association called out the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to nullify its order on phasing out vehicles that are 15 years old and above. It said that pursuing the said policy will lead to job losses in the industry. Moreover, it belied claims that the old models of trucks cause traffic congestion. Instead, it suggested road worthiness and discipline as key to orderly and safe roads. The truck holiday will run until Nov. 24.
