Jennylyn Mercado on being a single mom

Being a mother alone is hard enough but imagine having to be a father to your child too. Actress and single mom Jennylyn Mercado may have gone through some challenges, but she has come a long way in overcoming them. She shares a few tips for fellow single mothers during the recent launch of the You X Max Factor campaign, where she was introduced as the makeup brand’s first Filipina ambassadress. It will be worth it Being a single mom is no easy feat. Though the actress admits the hardships, she shares it is going to be worth it in the end, especially if a mother sees her child grow up to be a good-natured person. “Pagnakikita mo yung anak mo na lumalaki ng mabait, may respeto, mapagmahal, matalino, parang ikaw lahat 'yun, di ba?” she explains. “Pinalaki mo siya ng mag-isa, so ikaw ang nag-instill sa kanya 'nun.” She adds that she is proud to have raised her 10-year-old son, Jazz, on her own and always makes sure she has time for him despite her busy schedule. “Kailangan mong yi-test if tinanggap ko ba 'yung work na 'to, magkakaroon pa ba ako ng time for my son? Kailangan naming umupo and i-check talaga ng mabuti yung schedule. I make sure na meron akong time for Jazz at least 3 or 4 times a week.” she shares. Trust your support system Also a triathlete and entrepreneur, Jennylyn is the epitome of what everyone would call a “strong, independent woman.” She may have gone through a lot, but she was able to overcome all the hardships with the help of her family and friends. “Siguro kung wala yung company ko (GMA Network) and yung mga people na naka-surround sa akin, hindi ko rin kayang magsurvive. Sila yung mga taong talagang hindi ako pinabayaan. I think hindi ako makakarating sa kung saan ako ngayon kung wala rin sila.” she admits. When asked on her tips for fellow single mothers, Jennylyn stresses the importance of having a good support system, which can come not just from family members but also from trusted friends. “Siguro kailangan ang haba ng pasensya mo kasi ikaw lang ang gagawa ng lahat ng responsibilidad.” the actress adds. “Kailangan meron kang presence of mind and nakaplano na lahat. Kung iisipin mo, mahirap pero madali lang pag andyan ka na eh.”
