Church pays special attention to the Filipino youth

By Christina Hermoso With the theme “The Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered,” the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will pay special attention to the Filipino youth as it prepares for the opening of the Year of the Youth on December 2, the First Sunday of Advent.

(MANILA BULLETIN) The year-long observance, which ends on Nov, 24, 2019, will focus on four concerns: youth in formation, youth in community, Church and society, youth in mission, and youth ministry and youth ministers. “The Year of the Youth is a journey of encounter with Jesus, accompanied by Mary, the Star of the New Evangelization,”said the CBCP Commission on Youth. “In this journey, we tell the story of the Filipino youth with our Risen Lord. We, young Filipinos and Filipinas, listen to Jesus, the Youth Minister par excellence. As we are blessed and gifted during this journey, we are empowered to witness to and share our faith,” it added. The Year of the Youth follows the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons. It is part of a nine-year journey launched by the CBCP in 2013 in preparation for the 500th year of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. “We look forward with gratitude and joy to March 16, 2021, the fifth centenary of the coming of Christianity to our beloved land,” the CBCP said.
