57 people nabbed by NBI agents in raids at five Peryahan outlets in QC

By Jel Santos A total of 57 people were apprehended by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in simultaneous raids at five "Peryahan ng Bayan" in Quezon City on Wednesday, an official of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said Friday. The raided five outlets were reportedly being operated by Globaltech. PCSO said it terminated in 2016 Globaltech’s Deed of Authority to operate "Peryahan ng Bayan" due to various violations. As such, the firm reportedly owes PCSO around P100-million unremitted revenues. “Let this be a warning to Globaltech, you are operating illegally. We will shut down all your existing 'Peryahan' sites. We will also file criminal charges against the operators and also administrative if we found out that some elective officials are involved in this kind of illegal gambling activity,” said Alexander Balutan, PCSO general manager. “The Peryahan which is being operated by Globaltech in Quezon City and some parts of the country is illegal and must be closed,” Balutan added. The 57 nabbed individuals are bet collectors of the five outlets which were illegally operating, PCSO said. Seized from them were four sets of desktop computers; fake PCSO identification cards; bet slips; and vehicles being used for bet collection. The nabbed individuals, according to PCSO, will be facing charges for the violation of the Anti-Illegal Numbers Games Laws and the Cyber Crime Law.
