Not too long ago, Kiefer Sanchez, Francis Concepcion, and Mackie Empuerto of popular singing group TNT Boys were just regular kids, each roaming the streets at Christmas time.
They hop from house to house, belting out Christmas carols – “Silent Night,” “Pasko Na Naman, “Jingle Bells,” and “Ang Pasko Ay Sumapit” are among the popular ones – hoping to get in return an “aginaldo,” preferably cash or even chocolates and candies.
Sometimes they get 20 or 50 pesos. Sometimes, just one peso – as Mackie attested. Still, he expressed his gratitude by singing “Thank you. Thank you. Ang babait ninyo, thank you!”
Now, the TNT Boys have captured Filipino hearts and traveled the world to sing on international stages and TV shows. International celebrities Steve Harvey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Jessie J expressed admiration for the young singers, praising their jaw-dropping vocal prowess.
Popstar Jessie J even said on Instagram Live: “I’m obsessed with them. They’re so sweet and so talented.”
“We are really speechless. Jessie J is one of our idols and it’s very overwhelming to see her praising our talent,” Kiefer said in Filipino.
Early this month, they were named the Royal Cub awardee at this year’s RAWR Awards for consistently making headlines, trending on social media and on YouTube for their world-class performances, and bringing pride to the country.
The Bigshot Trio will release a Christmas album titled “TNT Boys Christmastime” under TNT Records in December to give their own renditions of some of the most-loved classic Christmas songs.
But before that, they will be pulling out all the stops for their first major concert titled “Listen: The Big Shot Concert” on Nov. 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Mind you, tickets are almost sold out.
Many believe it’s time for the trio to reward themselves with all the hard work they have been doing over the months.
If Santa Claus is true, Kiefer, Mackie and Francis wish to have their own microphones and ear monitors.
They hope to last longer in the industry so they would be able to help support their families’ needs.
