Comelec announces Local Absentee Voting for media, soldiers, police, others in gov't

By Leslie Ann Aquino Employees and members of government agencies, as well as members of media, who will be on duty on May 13, 2019 for the midterm polls would be able to cast their votes ahead of time. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) In Resolution No. 10443, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) set the three-day Local Absentee Voting (LAV) period from April 29 to May 1. LAV may be availed by government officials and employees, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) and media practitioners that are registered voters but will not be able to vote on Election Day due to the performance of their functions. Government officials and employees as well as the police and military will be voting at designated voting centers identified by their superiors/commanders. For media men, they are set to vote at the Comelec offices where they also filed their applications to avail of the LAV. The poll body said government officials and personnel, members of the military and the police, and media practitioners may cast their vote any day during the said period from 8 am to 5 pm. Those who want to avail of the LAV, the Comelec said must file their application not later than March 11. Media practitioners are also required to submit certifications signed by their respective heads of media entities attesting that they are bona fide members of the media. Those who will be availing of the LAV will be voting only for the positions of senators and party-list group.
