Ex-beauty queen urges body to look at pageant conduct

Another former beauty queen who admitted she was a rape survivor has urged authorities to form a body that will govern the conduct of pageant activities for male and female.

This was aired by former Miss Global Philippines 2016 CJ Hirro who also revealed some of the girls' encounters with rude sponsors in the pageant world.
"As much as it hurts me to learn that more beauty queens have been victims, I am hopeful that changes in the conduct of pageants will soon be done now that more women are speaking up," says Hirro, a former speech writer for a senator, in a post on Instagram last Monday.
She adds: "Pageant directors and organizers should be subjected to yearly reviews for clearance to conduct another pageant, and should be penalized for wrongdoings."
Hirro, also known as the first short-haired Filipino beauty queen, has called on other beauty queens to speak up against sexual harassment in the pageant world.
"For a rape survivor like me, nothing would devastate me more than another girl falling victim to sexual predators and I didn't do anything to stop it," says Hirro.
She recalls that she knew of two girls from another beauty contest who experienced having to fight off a sponsor who went into their room.
"Two different girls, two different sponsors, two different times. I met one of these sponsors twice and he was drunk and unruly both times," Hirro says.
The event host also remembers a batch of pageant winners who were sent to a sponsor's house for a victory party "where they were told that whoever is the friendliest gets an LV bag."
"I know the girls were uncomfortable being there because they were sending me messages. Since my BF lives in area too, I asked him to stay up with me, and we spent the night driving around in his van, ready to rescue the girls anytime," Hirro adds.
"I have spoken up about this many times and have condemned the practice to having sponsors host a private party with candidates or pageant winners (especially ones that involve drinking) many times, but mine was just one voice in this huge industry.”
"In all my Q and A training sessions with beauty queens, I warn them about this and tell them to not be scared to call people out and to speak up if it happens to them," says Hirro.
