BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the aliens are now undergoing deportation proceedings before the bureau’s board of commissioners for violating the country’s immigration laws.
Four of the aliens were arrested on Oct. 26 inside the Manila City Plaza mall in Quiapo, while the others were nabbed on the same day at the Two Shopping Center in Pasay.
Morente said the aliens were all caught selling retail goods to the public by BI intelligence operatives.
“Foreigners are prohibited in engaging in any gainful activity without the proper visas,” he stated.
They were identified as Cai Shaoqiu, Cai Shengfeng, Tian Changsheng, She Lijuan, Lin Manyi, Zeng Xinfu, Xiao Jinxiang, Zhang Yang Sheng, and Chichi Zhuang.
According to Morente, most of the foreign vendors were undocumented and failed to present their immigration documents.
“In fact, during the check, one of them presented a counterfeit immigration papers while another had assumed someone else’s identity as he had no record of arrival,” Morente said.
Morente reiterated his warning to foreign nationals that they will not be allowed to illegally engage in gainful activities which deprive small Filipino traders of livelihood.
“If you are a good, law-abiding alien we welcome you, but if you keep on disregarding Philippine laws you are not welcome," he added.
