Operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP)'s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested actress Keanna Reeves in Quezon City on Monday afternoon over cyberlibel charge.
Reeves, whose real name is Janet Derecho Duterte, was apprehended by elements of CIDG-Laguna around 12:45 p.m. along Timog Avenue corner Scout Ybardaloza, according to a police report sent by Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson of Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A).
The report said Reeves was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant for violation of Section 4(c) of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The warrant was issued by Judge Maria Florencia Formes-Baculo, presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 34 in Calamba, Laguna dated November 7, 2018.
According to Chief Insp. Zyrus Serrano, chief of the CIDG-Laguna, the operation stemmed from a cyberlibel complaint filed against Reeves by businesswoman Nancy Dimaranan.
Reeves allegedly mocked and cursed Dimaranan, owner of a food park in Biñan, Laguna where the actress performed on July 14, 2018.
According to a report, Reeves performed at Dimaranan's food park and after the show, she asked the businesswoman for a talent fee and car that would bring her home.
Dimaranan gave the P5,000 talent fee of Reeves and added P1,500 for travel fare since the businesswoman said she was already tired. Reeves accepted the offer.
However, the following day, Dimaranan saw a live video of Reeves posted on social media where the actress was cursing, mocking and calling her names such as "demon," "gay" and "animal."
In her defense, Reeves denied she cursed Dimaranan and called her names, and explained that she only expressed her dismay since the original arrangement was to bring her home.
She also belied that she mocked Dimaranan for being a transgender.
Serrano said Reeves was brought to CIDG-Laguna Provincial Field Unit in Cabuyao town for documentation and proper disposition.
The case has a recommended bail of P20,000.
Reeves was known for her sexy roles in different films and television appearances such as the most recent one, “Juan Happy Love Story” in 2016.
She was best known as the "big winner" in reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition aired on ABS-CBN in 2006.
