Train crushes girl in Laguna

By Danny Estacio CABUYAO CITY, Laguna - A 17 year-old girl was crushed to death after she was hit and dragged by an onrushing Philippine National Railways commuter train Thursday morning in Barangay Banay-Banay here.

(COMMONS WIKIMEDIA/ MANILA BULLETIN) The police identified the casualty as Sofia Jully Poatanes, a student and resident of Barangay Marinig. Investigation showed that at around 6:30a.m., the victim alighted from a tricycle and crossed the railroad tracks, when tragedy struck. Railroad crossing keeper Mario Jason Yupio and train marshal Wilfredo Jurada said the girl apparently did not notrice or hear the approaching train with its blaring horns. She died on the spot.
