OWWA launches OFW e-card

By Analou De Vera The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has launched its overseas Filipino workers (OFW) e-card on Tuesday, which aimed at providing easy access to the agency's services and benefits. "The OWWA is the only agency under the Department of Labor and Employment that has a legal mandate to provide an e-card for the OFWs. Through this OFW e-card, member-OFWs will have an easier access to our programs and services, as it allows instant verification of OWWA membership and reduces documentary requirements," said OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac. The OFW e-card also have a digital version through the OWWA mobile app and it may also serve as a valid government identification card. It contains an OFW membership number and a QR code as security features. Active members of the agency and are under the 'Balik Manggagawa' program may avail the e-card. Those who wish to apply for the e-card may visit the OWWA website. The e-card is available for free and may be claimed upon return to the Philippines or through family members provided that they present an authorization letter and a copy of the OFW's passport identification page. "OWWA has set up OFW e-card help desks in all its regional offices in the country and overseas posts across the globe, to cater to queries and concerns of OFWs applying for the OFW e-card," said Cacdac.
