BFP confirms gas leak in Makati

By Katherine Marajas A gas leak traced to a filling station in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City was being contained on Friday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.

(Bob Reyes/ MANILA BULLETIN) The leak at the Phoenix Petroleum gasoline station at Evangelista corner Heneral Estrella Streets was reported by residents who complained of a foul smell. The BFP Makati was on standby to address any emergency, while water was being used to flush out the underground storage of fuel. Authorities advised residents near the gas station to refrain from lighting candles and matches. Meanwhile, Phoenix Petroleum stated on its official Twitter account that the gas leak was an “isolated case.” “Please know that the incident at one of our stations in Makati is an isolated case and we have already taken steps to address the matter. And as the safety of the community is our utmost priority, we will continue to take strides to ensure that the issue gets resolved ASAP,” it stated. The main road and the gasoline station are still closed for the public’s safety.
