A lady lawmaker called on the public on Monday to be considerate and responsible in disposing of their trash, especially when they visit the graves of their departed loved ones on November 1-2.
Leyte Representative Yedda Marie Kittilstvedt-Romualdez appealed to every Filipino to be environmentally-conscious and not add up the piling up of tons upon tons of garbage at cemeteries during the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.
“While we celebrate treasured memories of those who have gone to rest in God’s embrace, let us also remember environmental considerations from the expected garbage that might be piling-up. The people should help maintain cleanliness,” she said.
She said Filipinos should be mindful of proper waste disposal and not leave trash inside public cemeteries or streets and major thoroughfares.
The lawmaker also asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to ensure the safety of the public.
She urged the local government units (LGUs) to deploy emergency equipment and personnel at cemeteries and coordinate with volunteer groups in providing assistance to the public in case of emergency situations.
“The exodus to cemeteries and memorial parks will be a traffic nightmare, the people should be more relaxed despite the inconvenience to avoid any untoward incident,” she said.
