Marissa Sanchez turned serious when asked to talk about Rico Puno.
Rico Puno
“I have been performing with Rico since I was 16 years old. He gave me the breaks I needed to become who I am in the concert scene,” she said. “He also gave me tips on how to be funny and witty onstage. I was svelte then, as sexy as Giselle Sanchez, young and innocent. But Rico never took advantage of that. He was a gentleman.”
I agree with Marissa. Yes, Mr. Macho Guapito can get very naughty onstage with his green jokes and nasty monologues but behind the “dirty old man” onstage-persona is a kind and generous man offstage who will never lay a hand or touch women in sleazy way.
“He may touch our lives but just our lives, not our bodies,” Marissa joked.
“I dont need to be sleazy,” said Rico who was with us at the time. “Remember in my heyday, women would throw their panties at me during my concert. I’m just glad they were fresh ones.”
On Nov. 23, Rico, Marissa and I will stage a concert at The Theatre at Solaire. Rico J said the show is like no other he did before.
“This is like a musical of my hit songs,” Rico said. “The repertoire follows a story about an unfaithful husband. It’s up to you to guess who the wife and the mistress is from these two ladies.”

Joining us as guest performer is Tosca Puno, Rico’s daughter who is grateful to God that Rico was given another lease in life.
“My dad recently had a pacemaker put in his heart. He said he did the surgery for us, his children, so he can spend more time with us. I am thankful God gave him a second life because he has so many things to accomplish not only in the concert scene but also for the people of Makati,” Tosca said.
Both assured the doctor gave Rico a clean bill of health. He has done guest performances on “It’s Showtime” and he’s been doing corporate gigs for several weeks. I have attended pictorials and rehearsals with him and I assure everyone this old carabao named Rico J can outrun a 30-year-old man.
Written by Chad Kinis and directed by Carlo Orosa , “Sana Tatlo Ang Puso Ko” is going to rock. Tickets available at ticketnet.com.ph.
