President Duterte is expected to confer the Order of National Artist on seven outstanding Filipinos in Malacañang this Wednesday.

(RENE LUMAWAG/PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) The list of 2018 National Artists includes Francisco Mañosa (architecture), Eric de Guia aka Kidlat Tahimik (film), Ramon Muzones and Resil B. Mojares (literature); Ryan Cayabyab (music); Amelia Lapeña Bonifacio (theater); and Lauro “Larry” Alcala (visual arts). The outstanding individuals have been recommended by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). Earlier, the Palace kept mum about prestigious roster of National Artists despite reports revealing some names in the list. Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the Palace has received the names of individuals up for the Order of National Artist but he was unaware about their identities. "What I know is that there were names submitted. I don't know exactly who the names are," Panelo said during a Palace press briefing. In the same Palace ceremony tomorrow, the President will bestow the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) Award to Ambalang Ausalin, Estelita Bantilan, and Yabing Masalon- Dulo A National Artist is granted the honors and privileges such as the rank and title of National Artist, insignia of a National Artist and a citation, and a lifetime emolument and benefits similar to those received by the highest officers in the country. Among the incentives are P100,000 cash award for living awardees, P75,000 cash award for posthumous awardees, a monthly life pension medical and hospitalization benefits, life insurance, a state funeral at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, and a place of honor at national state functions.
