Filipina comedian Iyah Mina made Philippine Cinema history as the first transgender woman to win a "Best Actress" award.

Mina was recognized as “Best Actress” at the 2018 Cinema One Original Awards held Sunday for her debut film 'Mamu; And a Mother Too'.
Mina's film also bagged the Audience Choice Award at the annual film festival.
"More than just celebrating #IAmOriginal, we also celebrate equality! Today, we made history as Iyah Mina is the first transgender woman to win Best Actress in Philippine Cinema," stated Cinema One in a Facebook post.
'Mamu; And a Mother Too', directed by Rod Singh, is a story about a transgender sex worker in her late 40s who suddenly assumes the role of a mother to her orphaned niece, a transgender youth who is only beginning to discover her own sexuality.
