CAMP OLA, Albay — A sports utility vehicle (SUV) carrying local officials of Milaor, Camarines Sur careened off the road and plunged into a ravine while traveling through Ragay town, same province, killing a former mayor in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Chief Inspector Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5), identified the fatality as Andri Hidalgo, Jr., former mayor of Milaor. He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Calubaquib said the accident happened at 1:30 a.m. Monday while the SUV was cruising along Andaya Highway, Barangay F. Simeon in Ragay, Camarines Sur.
Investigation showed the road was slippery at the time and the vehicle skidded to the opposite lane and rammed through the steel barrier before plunging into the ravine.
She said others riding in the SUV driven by Noel Mariquit were Milaor Vice Mayor Senan Bermas, former vice mayor Roberto Cano, and a bodyguard named Vicente Claro.
They survived the crash with non-fatal injuries and were initially treated at the Ragay District Hospital before being transferred to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City.
