Duterte arrived at the mall around 5:00 p.m. but before doing the unveiling ceremonies, he first greeted the people who were waiting outside the mall and proceeded to also greet the
tenants and workers, and granted selfies to those who wanted to take photos with him.
The president unveiled the marker of the mall along with the Gaisano family led by their family head Benito and later signed the guestbook. He went around the mall for a few minutes and greeted the tenants and staff on the second floor.
In his speech, Duterte thanked the owners for their trust in the city by building another mall which indicates economic development here.
"Pasalamat ko’g dako. Una, trabaho. Makahatag og trabaho sa mga tao ngari dapita. (I want to thank you, first because of the jobs. You can give jobs for the people around here)," he said.
He promoted the items and commodities sold in the newly opened mall. "Mga pagkaon, sanina barato… Balita man gyud na ang Gaisano nga ubos og presyo. (Affordable food and clothing Gaisano is known for having low prices)," he said.
Gaisano Grand Group of companies president Geraldine April Gaisano-Anggala said the Cyber Gate in Davao is their first such mall in the Philippines. She said the company chose the city because it is known for its good peace and order situation among other cities in the country.
"When there is peace and order, there is progress," she said.
She said the City Gate has a department store, cinema and supermarket. She also added that the company will also build four residential towers to be called Amanni's City Gate.
