Hyundai's Class 2 Euro-IV modern jeepney
Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) shows its support for the government’s PUV Modernization program with the unveiling of its Hyundai Modern Jeepney. Unveiled during the opening ceremonies of the Hyundai Power Solutions Mobility Expo in Pampanga, the vehicle is compliant with Class 2 standards set for modern PUVs.
The Hyundai Modern Jeepney is built on a Hyundai cab and chassis and is the product of collaborative efforts with students of the University of the Philippines College of Architecture and Interior Design and the College of Engineering, and the technical expertise of Hyundai Motor Company’s (HMC) Research and Development Center in Seoul, Korea.
The Hyundai Modern Jeepney is powered by a Euro IV CRDi engine for better fuel efficiency and cleaner emissions. The careful selection of its underlying platform translates to better stability and performance through optimized height-to-width ratio and a higher power-to-weight ratio. With its performance and efficiency in high priority, the Hyundai Modern Jeepney hopes to presents itself as a reliable and sturdy road partner for drivers and commuters alike.
It also comes equipped with the mandatory modern Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) features such as automated payment system (Beep card-enabled), Wifi connectivity, GPS tracking, CCTV cameras for security, and speed limiter technology. It is assembled in partnership with Del Monte Motor Works, Inc. (DMMWI), a leading body manufacturer in the Philippines.
Hyundai has initially allocated 800 units to support the transport requirements of various groups in key regions. The first 400 units of its modern jeepneys will be turned over to its priority batch of partners and key transport cooperatives, namely, the 11 transport groups that comprise the Public Transport Alliance of General Santos (PTAG) in South Cotabato; the three transport cooperatives from Tanay, Rizal, specifically: Isabela Tourist Transport Service Cooperative, Jardan Transport Services and Development Cooperative, and Amore Transport Cooperative; and the Sapang Palay Minuyan Loop Transport Service Cooperative in Bulacan. Hyundai aims to field its first fleet of modern jeepneys to the Philippine roads by first half of 2019.
“The debut of the new Hyundai Modern Jeepney reflects the company’s steadfast commitment to support the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP). We believe that fleet modernization is an important step towards the economic progress of the Philippines, and we have been working closely with the Department of Transportation to ensure that this vision becomes a reality,” said HARI President and CEO, Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.

Hyundai Power Solutions
Besides the modern jeepney, Hyundai also put on display its complete lineup of trucks and buses. The Hyundai Power Solutions – North Luzon Leg is Hyundai’s commercial vehicle (CV) expo, the first of a series of Hyundai business expositions in strategic locations all over the Philippines. The expo aims to bring Hyundai’s total solutions package—from its complete line of innovative trucks, buses, and special purpose vehicles, to expert after-sales service and genuine parts support—closer to prospective customers and markets. Flanking the modern jeepneys were Hyundai HD light to medium-duty trucks, the Xcient heavy-duty series, as well as the people movers, starting with the H350 and County, to the Super Aero City and Universe buses.
HARI has specifically selected the LausGroup Event Centre in San Fernando, Pampanga due to its central location. “San Fernando is the premier commercial and industrial center in Pampanga, located in the heart of Region 3, the 3rd biggest contributor to Philippine GDP outside of the National Capital Region. San Fernando is also at the crossroads of three main drivers of commercial and industrial growth in Central Luzon, namely, Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone in Pampanga, Subic Bay Freeport and Special Economic Zone in Zambales, and Bataan Export Processing Zone in Mariveles, Bataan,” said Agudo.

HARI is pouring some P1.2 Billion into boosting its CV dealership facilities and sales and aftersales expertise. HARI’s CV dealership network now totals 11, situated in key locations all over the country, and will grow to at least 20 by year 2020. The company has high hopes for the commercial vehicle sector, citing the first eight months of 2018, which saw a boost in industry sales of Category IV light-duty trucks by 37.1-percent compared to the same period in 2017. Besides the vehicles themselves, HARI also hopes to boost customer confidence in their CVs with After-sales Service through its CV marketing campaign headlined by the Call for Service Inspection (CSI) program, the service hotline to highly trained technicians who bring Hyundai’s tried-and-tested CV maintenance and repair right to the customer’s doorstep.
