Federalism will not happen during Duterte's term - Chiz

(Francis (Chiz) Escudero Official Facebook page / MANILA BULLETIN) In a press conference held at their residence in Sorsogon City, Escudero said it is impossible for those who are pushing for federalism to to make it happen in the remaining years of President Duterte. "Sa tingin ko, mahihirapan ng mangyari yan sa termino ni Presidente Duterte," Escudero said. He cited that some allies of the President already filed their certificates of candidacy (CoC) to run in different elective position, and everyone now are looking for allies since election year 2022 is fast approaching. Escudero said that instead of focusing on federalism, they might look for allies to increase their chances of winning in the 2022 national election. "Syempre ang mga kakampi nga niya (President Duterte) ay nagsitakbuhan na. Mababawasan, at maghahabap ng sariling tabi ang mga pulitiko papunta sa 2022," Escudero said. Even the economic managers of President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Escudero, are not in favor of federalism. "Kahit yung economic managers ni President Duterte ay hindi pabor sa federalismo. Ako po nag-attend sa budget deliberasyon sa Senado kung saan ang sagot ng Secretary of Finance, DBM Secretary at NEDA, ang secretary general, hindi sila pabor. Hindi nga nila alam kung gaano kalaki ang kailangan sa federalismo. In fact, sinabi ni Secretary Dominguez nung tinanong ko, ng kinausap daw niya yung mga nagpu-push ng federalism, two hours daw silang nag-usap usap, and after two hours, mas lalo daw siyang nalito. So para po sa akin, walang tsansa ang federalismo na mangyari sa panahon ni Presidente Duterte," Escudero explained. Escudero's term as senator ends next year but he filed last week his COC for governor of the province. He will be challenged by Vladimir Frivaldo in the gubernatorial race.
