By Argyll Cyrus Geducos President Duterte jokingly warned public about messing with his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, saying the lady mayor can do everything from mauling a sheriff to ousting the leader of the House of Representatives. Duterte made the statement during the concluding ceremonies of the 44th Philippine Business Conference and Expo at the Manila Hotel Thursday evening. (PCOO/ MANILA BULLETIN) In his speech, Duterte, the former Davao City mayor, recalled how he was able to run for president in 2016 with ease because he knew he would be leaving his hometown to his reliable daughter. "I could not see Davao go back in shambles. So I insisted on my daughter kasi kaya niya. Tignan mo ang sheriff binugbog (because she can do it. She even mauled a sheriff). Where can you find a mayor mauling a sheriff in front of everybody on TV," he said. However, Duterte, in jest, warned the public about going against his daughter, saying she will not be backing out on anything. "Talagang ano 'yan si Inday (Inday really is something). Be careful of that woman. She can oust even a Speaker. She operated in Davao," he said. "She operated in Davao as mayor, tignan mo nangyari sa Congress. Oh, 'di natanggal si (look at what happened to Congress. They ousted) ... For one simple ," he added. Duterte was referring to the unseating of former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez which occurred at the day of his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July. Alvarez was ousted by his colleagues and was replaced by former President Pampanga second district Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. It was reported that the Presidential daughter initiated the move oust Alvarez and endorsed former President Arroyo to take over the position. Carpio back then refused to comment on the matter. According to the President, Carpio did not like it when Alvarez joked about having the power to remove Duterte from office. "Para sa atin wala 'yan. Bale wala 'yan, politiko (To me that's nothing. That's politics)," Duterte said. "You banter around but you know, siguro, anak. Lalo na ito. Bantay kayo dito. Nung narinig 'yan nag--- siguro sabi niya, 'Bakit mo ganunin tatay ko na...' (Maybe it's because she's my daughter. Watch out for her. Maybe when she heard the remark, she wondered why would someone do that to her father)," he added. Duterte then said that even he is afraid of his daughter. "Honest to God. Si Inday 'yung maneuver niya. Kaya putang ina pati ako pag naisahan ako niyan, baka mag coup d'etat pa siya, ang junta, ako ang maiwan sa labas (That's how Inday works. That's why even I am looking out for myself because she might stage a coup d'etat and leave me outside)," he said. Early this year, Duterte-Carpio warned Alvarez to not even speak of her name in public events after the House Speaker claimed that the Presidential daughter is part of the opposition when she formed a separate regional political party. The Presidential daughter, in a Facebook post, said Alvarez messed with the wrong girl. "Somebody should tell the President what you are doing. How dare you call me part of the opposition. Kapal ng mukha mo. You messed with the wrong girl," she said. "This insecure fat sleaze is the epitome of the idiom barking at the wrong tree. I am not interested in his politics but he fired the first shot," she added. The Davao City Mayor also said that the Philippines would be better off without Alvarez as House Speaker. "He is not a leader. He will never be a leader. Many congressmen can do more than what he is delivering for the President," Carpio said. When asked for a comment, President Duterte said that he will not meddle in the feud. "Well, puro man sila abogado, eh di hayaan ko (They are both lawyers so I will let them be)," Duterte said.
