How JO.E's passion for music beat all odds

This is what aspiring artist JO.E told Bulletin Entertainment in recalling her musical journey.
Jessica Pineda Rodriguez or simply JO.E shared she went against her parents’ wishes by going to auditions of talent searches.
“My mom didn’t want me to pursue music because she said there’s no money there,” she said in Filipino. “But, of course, I understand my parents. They just want the best for me.”
After finishing college, JO.E looked for a job to help the family financially.
Yet, true love never dies.
In 2016, she quit work and pursued her music career professionally.
“It was a big sacrifice,” she noted. “After I saved enough money, I resigned and then I literally went door to door to drop off my demos at every radio station. I was determined to get my voice heard.”
Given her perseverance, she eventually earned the support of her parents.
The young singer may not have a big name in the industry yet, but she doesn’t have any regrets. Like Moira dela Torre who gained fame only after 10 years, JO.E is ready to play the waiting game.
“I always believe that even how slow it is (her career), it doesn’t matter. What matters the most is I love what I’m doing, I’m happy, I’m satisfied. There’s no reason for me to give up,” she said.
Perseverance
Last February, JO.E signed with Viva Records. Before that, she already has fans who love her songs “Tayo” and “Stop Over” released on Spotify. Both have over two million streams as of this writing.
“It’s really overwhelming. Before, I was just singing on our house. Now my voice is already on the phones of different people,” she enthused.
She, whose influences are Kyla, Mariah Carey, is into R&B and pop genres.
The 24-year-old artist writes songs from the heart.
“I put so much effort to every word. Like, I don’t want to be that stereotype millennial artist. I’m not a belter, but I guess my advantage is the heart I put into every word I sing,” she said.
While other artists used social media as their platform, JO.E has a different approach.
“I want to keep myself low-key. I don’t like to upload videos online. I think its best that they only hear and not see me, because I want them to love me not because of my looks, I want them to love me for my voice,” she shared.
Apart from “Tayo” and “Stop Over,” JO.E has released “Bihag Ng Kahapon” and “Sanay Naman Ako.” All songs are available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music and all digital stores.
Multi-talented as she is, JO.E can play guitar and ukulele.
“I inherited this from my parents. My father plays guitar while my mom is into piano. However, they didn’t teach me anything about it. It was all self-taught, I learned through ‘YouTube University,’” she said, laughing.
