SM@60 donates 60,000 pairs of shoes nationwide

By Zaldy Comanda  BAGUIO CITY - Thousands of public school pupils in Northern Luzon and other regions of the country received 60,000 pairs of shoes from the SM group under the “Change a life, Shoe some love” project, as SM marks its 60th founding anniversary (#AweSM 60th anniversary). (Zaldy Comanda / MANILA BULLETIN) “Now after 60 years, SM would like to give back to the community by giv­ing out 60,000 shoes to different public schools nationwide accumulated by a collaborative efforts of the company, the employees, agency personnel’s, tenants and other partners as our way of saying thank you to everyone,” said SM’s Mark Carlo Herrera. At SM City Tarlac, employees led the distribution of 1,000 pairs of shoes to pupils of Asturias Elementary School, Mapalac­siao Elementary School, and Carangian Elementary School. SM City Baguio also donated a to­tal of 1,000 pairs of shoes to Bakakeng Elementary School, San Carlos Heights Elementary School, Irisan Elementary School, Sto. Tomas Elementary School, Piminggan Elementary School, San Pascual Elementary School, Taloy Norte Elementary School and Tabu Elementary School. In Pangasinan, 20 employees from SM City Rosales volunteered to distrib­ute 1,000 pairs of shoes to 12 schools, namely, Cabalaoangan Elementary School, Camangaan Elementary School, Carmen Elementary School, Guiling-Coliling Elementary School, Palakipak Elementary School, Pangaoan Elemen­tary School, Rabago Elementary School, Rosales South Cen­tral School, San Bartolome Elemen­tary School, San Isidro Elementary School, Sitio Baong Elementary School, Tomana Elemen­tary School and SPED Center. Students waved banners with the message ‘Agyaman Kami’ (Nagpa­pasalamat kami) to show their gratitude to the SM group. Kristal Gayle Agbulig, Public Rela­tions Manager of SM City Cauayan in Isabela said another 1,000 pairs of shoes were distributed to pupils of Mi­nante 2 Elementary School in Cauayan City, Naguilian-Bacolod Elementary School, Tubo Elementary School, San Ignacio Elementary School in Ilagan City, Isabela. 60 years after the first Shoe Mart (SM) store was opened, Henry Sy Sr.’s SM group has evolved into a giant conglomer­ate that operates 71 malls in the Philip­pines and several more in China.
