Senior citizens take over Baguio City Hall

By Zaldy Comanda BAGUIO CITY — With the theme, “Kilalanin at Parangalan: Tagapagsulong ng Karapatan ng Nakatatanda tungo sa Lipunang Mapagkalinga,” Elderly Month this October is shaping up to be a fun-filled celebration for senior citizens of the city. Comanda) The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), which is spearheading the activities for the elderly, kicked off the celebration this morning with the Senior Citizen Official for a Day (SCOFAD) program. Mayor Mauricio Domogan administered the oath on senior citizens who have been designated as SCOFAD at the Monday flag-raising ceremony at City Hall. The CSWDO spearheaded the selection of the SCOFAD delegates after observation, orientation and introduction to their respective places of assignment. They will execute the function of the office for one day. Ederly Filipino Month this year is themed: “Kilalanin at Parangalan: Tagapagsulong ng Karapatan ng Nakakatanda tungo sa Lipunanang Mapagkalinga.” On Tuesday (October 2), there will be a recognition of Baguio’s centenarians an awarding of six senior citizens cited for leadership, community service, resource generation, and being the “Huwarang Nakatatanda” (Model Elderly). On Thursday (October 4), at least a hundred elderly citizens will undergo a whole-day orientation on healthy lifestyle “Right to a Wholesome Life,” by the Department of Health-CAR. More events are lined up by the CSWDO this month in cooperation with the Baguio Veterans District, Blessed Association of Retired Persons (BARP), Philippine Government Retirees Association (PGRA), and Federation of Baguio Senior Citizens Associations (FBASECA) have come up with the Senior Citizen Official for a Day (SCOFAD), Search for the Outstanding Senior Citizen, healthy lifestyle for a, and other activities for the celebration.
