"Again I would like to extend my sincerest public apology, to the netizens," Bertiz told an impromptu press conference at the House of Representatives on Monday.
"I shouldn't act that way, it's uncalled for...I shouldn't have grabbed the ID of the gentleman (NAIA security aide)...I have no intention of harming ," the first-term congressman said.
Viral videos over the weekend showed the ACTS-OFW Party-list lone nominee seemingly bullying a security personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after the latter accosted him for refusing to remove his shoes during body check.
At one point in the video, Bertiz shoved his ID in the face of the security aide before swiping at the latter's jacket as if to look for his own identification.
"Tao lang po na marupok, naiistress at umiinit ang ulo (I am only human, one who is weak, gets stressed and angry)," the Minority solon replied after a reporter asked him to comment about his supposed steak of bad attitude outside Congress.
"Patawad po (Forgive me)," he said.
Bertiz also publicly apologized to wife, daughters, and son, saying they are being bashed online because of his actions.
"Napakahirap po pala na nagva-viral, hindi ka makatulog (To go viral is difficult, it's hard to sleep... are being bashed in social media, they had to take their accounts down," he said.
He also confirmed that he has been receiving death threats and anonymous angry messages.
"Murahin niyo na po ako (Curse me all you want), but let's spare our children," Bertiz appealed to his haters. He said he would wait for the result of authorities' investigation on the incident.
Fake letter
Meanwhile, Bertiz called as "fake" the one-page letter stating his expulsion from ACTS-OFW Party-list. One Feliciano Adorna Jr., listed as chairman of the party-list, was among the signatories of the letter.
"The document being circulated in social media is fake...We've never recognized this person, Feliciano Adorna," Bertiz said, adding that he remains the party's nominee in the 17th Congress.
He showed the journalists a flier baring the alleged face of Adorna. He claims that the latter has been posing as a congressman under ACTS-OFW.
Bertiz said there is no conflict within the party-list as far as his nomination is concerned.
