Bianca Umali will hold a bash in time for her 18th birthday, and she sees the milestone as cue to turn a new page in life.
Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix
"Feeling ko when I turn18 mag-iiba lahat 'yung perspective ko in life – I'm obligated, mas responsable, mas maiintindihan 'yung reality ng mundo natin," she said.
Note that Bianca was raised by her paternal grandmother. The young actress' mother, who was half-Spanish, died of breast cancer when the former was five years old. The father died of a heart attack five years later.
"Doing everything alone at a young age is hard and siguro stepping into the adulthood na talagang legal na 'yung age is harder so I don't know how iha-handle 'yun," Bianca said.
In any case, despite being scared of what the world would bring her, Biancs is also excited about it all as this is her first time to have a grand celebration on her special day.
"Actually wala po talaga sa plans kong mag-celebrate ng debut kasi hindi po talaga ako nagse-celebrate ng birthday. Usually kain lang or I celebrate my birthday at home. Pero everyone has been telling me na I should celebrate because 'once in your whole life ka lang mag-18' so 'yun po."
Asked for more details, the actress just smiled saying she'd rather keep it a surprise.
But surely co-actor and love team partner Miguel Tanfelix will be her escort that day, right?
"Ako po 'yung driver," he said in jest. Bianca added: "Siya po 'yung waiter."
Since his name was brought up, we asked Miguel what he intends to give the debutante.
"Secret po muna," he said. "Basta ang dami kong suprirse na nakahanda for her debut."
Tsup, tsup
Are they ready to kiss before the cameras?
"I'll call my lola," she quipped. "I don't know, I mean we've done kissing scenes before pero with daya."
"We'll see. I'm also looking forward to and excited on what my 18th year holds for me."
Even if that includes working with other love team partners? Do they look forward to doing that?
"We don't look forward to it but we are open to it," was how Bianca put it. "Hindi po namin sinasabi na we don't want to. It's just that we don't look forward kasi if it's our decision, ayaw po talaga namin maghiwalay."
Travel buddy
Despite busy schedules, the two make time to go out and enjoy. They love going on impromptu trips.
"Masaya kaya," Miguel said. "Kung biglaan kasi 'pag pinaplano hindi natutuloy..."
Over the holidays, they went on a hike on Mt. Nagpatong in Rizal. It was Bianca's first time after Miguel introduced it to the actress.
The actor described the experience "sobrang saya," as he was really into environment.
"Every time na nasa forest ako o bundok na re-relax ako," he said. "Kasi kahit panandalian lang 'yung stress galing taping nawawala. Quick getaway lang."
Of course during the trip, Miguel, a gentleman, assisted Bianca all the way.
"Sabi ko nga sa kanya hindi ko siya tutulungan para masanay siya, pero kasi I can't help it," he said. "'Pag may mahirap lang naman pero as much as possible gusto ko maranasan niya talaga 'yung hriap ng pag-akyat ng bundok para pagdating mo sa taas parang masasabi mo na 'Oh pinag hirapan ko 'to.'"
Although it was a long journey, Bianca thinks it was worth it.
"Nakakawala po talaga ng pagod. 'Pag nakarating po kayo sa itaas parang kaya niyo na po ulit umakyat ng isa pa," she said.
Prior to their mountain trip, the reel couple tried scuba diving in Batangas last year.
Paranormal
Bianca and Miguel are proud of their ongoing series "Kambal, Karibal." They said it has an interesting genre that tackles drama and love story with a touch of the supernatural.
On the show, Bianca is Crisan, one of the twins who is very understanding. Miguel, on the other hand, plays Diego who longs to feel his father's love and care.
Many scenes require Bianca to talk to the ghost of her deceased twin sister, Crisel.
"Ako po kasi madalas kausap ko po lagi 'yung multo. Which is when we shoot it we do it ng paulit-ulit po because there are shot na kailangan nandu'n 'yung kambal ko and there are shot na dapat," she said. "It's hard na nag-a-acting ka na wala kang katapat, wala kang kausap."
They revealed that during their shoot, spiritual experts are on the set to guide them and teach them on the proper ways of doing ritual.
