Caloocan shooting: Lady cop says suspect’s gun was stolen from her
A rookie female police officer from the Manila Police District (MPD) went to the Caloocan City Police Headquarters on Tuesday and claimed ownership of the firearm used in a street scuffle that resulted in stray bullet injuries case on New Year's eve.
The police officer said that her service firearm (Glock 17-9mm pistol) was stolen from her residence in Tondo, Manila on December 10, 2017.
"A man forcibly opened the door. I was sleeping that time and my service firearm was in the kitchen," said lady police officer.
She said she is assigned at the MPD-Police Station 2.
She added that she came forward after learning about a suspect who fired shots during a gun duel, that wounded two children.
Joven Earl Gaces, 10, and his friend Princess Denise Cruzat, 10, Grade 4, were hit by stray bullets during a shootout between neighbors in Barangay 35, Maypajo.
Gaces is now in critical condition at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center after a stray bullet hit his shoulder and pierced his stomach.
Cruzat, meanwhile, is now in stable condition after she underwent operation at Tondo Medical Center.
Isagani Ancheta, 38, was arrested after being cornered and mauled by residents moments after he had a scuffle with and shot Gil Galapuz, 27.
The firearm seized from Ancheta was allegedly the missing service pistol of the police officer.
Ancheta earlier claimed that he just borrowed the gun from a certain "Joel," a resident of Tondo, Manila.
The serial number of the policewoman's lost firearm matched the serial number inside the barrel of Ancheta's gun, the police said.
Sr. Supt. Jemar Modequillo, Caloocan police chief, said further examinations will be done to verify the claim.
"It will be presented to the PNP Crime Laboratory for matching," Modequillo said. (Kate Louise Javier)
