Twin explosions rock Maguindanao

Capistrano Davao City – The military on Friday confirmed that two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were detonated just a kilometer from the Sixth Infantry Division (6th ID) headquarters in Datu Odin Sinsuat town of Maguindanao province. Capt. Arvin Encinas, 6th ID spokesperson, said the bombs went off between 6:30 a.m. and 6:40 a.m. in Barangay Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat. Encinas told The Manila Bulletin that the blasts targeted military personnel, who were then passing the vicinity onboard a military vehicle. The first IED was detonated near a gasoline station, with the second one going off 10 meters away. Based on an initial investigation, Encinas said the blast could have been a diversionary tactic employed by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF). BIFF spokesperson Abu Misry Mama confirmed that their group was responsible for the explosions. And while Encinas said the military did not record any casualty from the twin blasts, Mama bared that he received reports that there were soldiers who were killed in the blasts, although he could not give details.
