ACTS-OFW Party-List Representative Aniceto “John” Bertiz III raised concern Sunday over the supposed release of closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) sans permission from proper aviation authorities.

This, after a video of the Minority congressman quarreling with a security personnel at NAIA went viral online.
“Mas nakakabahala rin kaya palang magpuslit at magpakalat ng CCTV video ang NAIA security ng walang basbas o pahintulot ni MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal pero kapag PNP at mga lumalaban sa human trafficking eh kailangan pang kumuha ng court order (What’s more concerning is that CCTV video can be slipped out and spread by NAIA security without the permission of MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal, but for the PNP and those fighting human trafficking, a court order is needed),” he said in a TV interview.
The MIAA or the Manila International Airport Authority is the operator of NAIA.
As per Bertiz, the surfacing of that particular video on social media shows a possibility that the airport’s CCTV system is being fiddled at.
“Kaya baka hindi nakukunan minsan ng CCTV video ang mga natatangap kong report ng nakawan at krimen sa NAIA eh dahil malayang mapapakialaman ng NAIA CCTV operators ang mga CCTV camera pati na rin ang video footage (Perhaps, the reason why the CCTV video sometimes does not capture stealing and crime at NAIA is because the operators can freely tinker with NAIA CCTV cameras and footage),” he said.
The quarrel allegedly stemmed from Bertiz’s refusal to remove his footwear upon airport security check.
“I always follow protocols especially airports which I was already trained for,” he insisted, adding that the particular airport personnel was “really rude and arrogant”
“He was really rude and arrogant po so I took a photo of his ID then I walked away peacefully,” Bertiz recounted.
The viral footage showed the lawmaker thrusting his ID near the airport personnel's face. After that, Bertiz swiped at the former’s jacket as of trying to look for his own ID.
“There were some Chinese-looking or civilians with NAIA escorts which were not asked to remove the shoes so ako naman, since I was wearing my NAIA Security ID, hindi na ako naghubad ng shoes kasi wala naman nag-alarm sa detector that I have metal,” he said.
“But that NAIA-OTS personnel was really rude and arrogant and asked me to go back so I politely informed him that I'm wearing official NAIA ID, and why he let other pass without asking to take the shoes off,” Bertiz said.
