Mob beat up snatcher in Manila

An alleged snatcher was cornered and beaten up by bystanders after trying to escape from a jeepney along Taft Avenue corner Pedro Gil in Manila on Wednesday night.
The police identified the suspect as Rey Mendoza, of legal age, single, jobless and resident of Baseco Compound, Manila.
On the other hand, the victim was identified as Ann Macacando, 23, therapist, resident of Pinagkuartelan, Pandi, Bulacan.
Investigation showed the victim was walking along Pedro Gil Street corner Taft Avenue, Manila when the suspect took her coin purse at about 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 24.
Fortunately, the bystanders noticed the incident and immediately chased the fleeing suspect.
Julan Brent Colina uploaded the video of the incident on Facebook with a caption in Filipino: “A snatcher was beaten up in Pedro Gil, his accomplice got away.”
In the video, a man can be seen pulling the thief out of a jeepney in Pedro Gil, Manila. The man proceeds to pummel the thief along with other men in the area. The thief shouts at them in Filipino: “Please have mercy!” However, the bystanders continued to beat him up.
The bystanders quickly turned into a mob and were seen ganging up on the snatcher until he fell to the ground with a bloody nose.
By the end of the video, a woman can be heard saying: “That’s enough. Let him go. He only took spare change from me.”
The video had over 928,000 views and 35,000 shares as of this article’s posting.
“Please be extra careful. I have also witnessed some robbery incidents near the area especially people lining up in the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station,” Colina told the Manila Bulletin.
Meanwhile, Mendoza will be facing charges of theft.
It can also be recalled that a group of young misfits attacked an old man and dragged him out of a jeepney in a bid to steal the pouch he was carrying on Taft Avenue corner Pedro Gil in Manila on Sept. 14.
