“Let us invest in the security of our business establishments by taking advantage of the benefits from the advanced technology," QCPD director Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel said Thursday.
The order was based from Quezon City Ordinance No. 2695 released this year which amends a 2012 ordinance mandating "all business establishments operating within the territorial jurisdiction of Quezon City to install CCTVs and prescribes penalties for violations thereof."
Section 3 of the ordinance specifies the "preservation of video recordings" and that business owners "shall make the camera recordings available to the authorities" when it is needed for an investigation of a crime, provided that there is a written request.
Moreover, under Section 6, "if a crime has been committed, the operator, employee or owner of the establishment shall immediately contact the nearest police station and shall provide access to the pertinent recordings to the Police and other investigators."
The ordinance cited that installing CCTVs will help in deterring violent crimes, theft, burglary and other crimes against property; and provides a "safer environment."
Violators of the city ordinance shall be penalized with a fine amounting to P5,000 or shall not be issued business permit or permit to operate, it said.
Esquivel encouraged the full support of the business owners by complying with the ordinance to avoid penalties.
