His Manila fan meeting called “Fiancee” showcased his singing skill and gave him the chance to play and interact with his fans.
“Magandang hapon. Nice to see you guys in Manila,” Jung Joon-young greeted his fans.
It was his second visit to Manila this year after gracing the launch of the Viu original “Hello K-Idol” last July.
Before he became a celebrity in South Korea, he lived in several countries because of his father’s business. At 17, he moved to the Philippines and taught taekwondo and music to Pinoy kids.
When asked by host Kring Elenzano-Kim what he missed the most in the Philippines, he said, “I miss kare-kare,” referring to a favorite Filipino dish.
His big break came when he entered the “Superstar K” TV program in 2012 where he ended up in the top 3.
“My dream was to become a singer and my dream came true,” he said and then became a mainstay of the Korean variety TV show “2 Days 1 Night” in 2013.
Last March, he released the single “Fiancee” featuring Microdot. As to what inspired him to write the lyrics, he said, “I was riding in a car. I was thinking of the lyrics and then I wrote it. I think there’s no inspiration.”
Jung Joon-young wears many hats in his career but his priority is singing, explaining that “I just focus on the music always.”
Jung Joon-young promised to come back
At the fan meet, Jung Joon-young played games with fans including “Know JJY Best” wherein contestants had to answer questions about him.
Through the game, he revealed that he was born in South Korea and then moved to Malaysia; his favorite color is black; he can speak fluently in Korean, English and Chinese; and his English name is Andrew. In another game, he sang lines from Filipino songs and the contestants had to guess the title of each song. The winners received autographed albums and had a selfie with the singer.
Jung Joon-young also performed his songs “Spotless Mind,” “Becoming Dust,” “Sympathy” and “Fiancee” at the event.
A video made by fans for him was shown on the screen and he was presented a cake.
“Thank you JJY for making our dreams come true. Happy fifth anniversary. Congratulations,” the fans said.
In his message, Jung Joon-young told them, “Thank you for your love. I had a great time. It’s my first time in Manila to meet you guys here. I can’t promise you but I hope to come back next year. Just keep watching my shows every night.”
Jung Joon-young’s “Fiancee” fan meeting in Manila was brought by Viu, Globe and Ayala Malls Vertis North.
