Former barangay chairman gunned down by five assailants in front of his four kids
A former barangay chairman was gunned down in front of his four kids while they were sleeping inside their home by five unidentified assailants on board a motorcycle early Tuesday morning in Pandacan, Manila.
The police identified the suspect as Buanito Buan, 57, widowed, former barangay chairman of Barangay 849 Zone 93, District 6, and resident of Ilang Ilang Street in Pandacan, Manila. He died on the spot after he sustained gunshot wounds in the head and body.
It was learned that he ran for another term as a barangay chairman in May 2018 but he lost.
Case investigator PO3 Marlo San Pedro of the Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide Section told the Manila Bulletin that Buanito with his four kids were sleeping inside the same bedroom when four unidentified suspects entered at 2:15 a.m. their residence on Ilang Ilang Street in Pandacan, Manila.
San Pedro also confirmed that two out of the five suspects were male.
According to their neighbors, four unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle, wearing helmets parked their motorcycle in front of the house and entered Buan’s residence.
Meanwhile, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage near the area also showed that one of their cohorts was left outside the house to be a lookout.
San Pedro also said that one of Buan’s kids told him that his father was involved in illegal drug activities.
Recovered from the crime scene were three fired cartridges from a 45 caliber.
A follow-up investigation is underway to identify the suspects and determine their motive in killing the victim, police added. (Erma Edera)
636 people nabbed by EPD for violating laws, city ordinances
More individuals were apprehended by the authorities in their anti-criminality operations over the last 24 hours.
The Eastern Police District (EPD) rounded up its total apprehended violators to 636 from 5 a.m. Monday until early Tuesday morning.
Of the arrested individuals, 27 minors were taken into custody by the EPD personnel for violating curfew hours.
The most number of violators came from the individuals caught violating the smoking ban in public places estimated to at least 300 persons.
Others were arrested for drinking in public places, going topless outside, and violating other laws and ordinances in the cities of Pasig, Marikina, San Juan, and Mandaluyong.
Meanwhile, almost half of the apprehended individuals in the eastern district came from Pasig City. (Hanah Tabios)
Woman nabbed by Marikina cops for possession of illegal drug
On-duty police officers of Marikina City PNP who was just about to dine in a fast-food restaurant arrested a woman allegedly possessing illegal drug Monday evening.
Police report showed that police officers PO1 Nestor Allama, PO1 Wenceslao Pastor Jr., and PO1 Paul Gerard San Jose of Marikina City PNP assigned at the Police Community Precinct 3 (PCP-3), were about to have their dinner along J.P. Rizal St. in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City at around 11 p.m.
Incidentally, they saw the suspect identified as Yenny Marie Reyes, 38, jobless, pinching a piece of suspected shabu in front of the fast-food restaurant.
The police approached the suspect and confronted her. Upon frisking, the police confiscated one pack of the suspected illegal drug and arrested Reyes on the spot.
Reyes is also included in Barangay Sto. Niño's drugs watchlist.
She was then immediately brought to Marikina City Central police detention cell.
Reyes is facing charge for possession of illegal drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Hanah Tabios)
Female receptionist nabbed for hiding illegal drug in her hair
A female receptionist was arrested by Marikina City police for concealing an alleged illegal drug clipped in her hair Monday evening.
The suspect was identified as Eliza Doi, 48, receptionist, of Barangay Nangka, Marikina City.
Police said that at around 9:20 p.m., an informant called the on-duty officers of the Marikina City Police Community Precinct 2 (PCP-2) about a suspected illegal drug activity along A. Bonifacio Avenue in Barangay Barangka.
Authorities then validated the information at the said area and saw one female person resembling the suspect sitting on the gutter.
The police then approached the said person and confirmed that it was Doi. The suspect was allegedly combing her hair while talking to the police, when one of the arresting officers noticed a pack of suspected shabu concealed and clipped in between her hair strands.
The suspect was immediately arrested on the spot after the evidence was recovered from the suspect’s possession.
She is now detained at Marikina City police detention cell and is facing charge in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Hanah Tabios)
138 elementary students enrolled in junior police project
Some 138 students from various elementary schools in Quezon City took oath as the first batch enrolled in the Junior Police Project of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) at Camp Tomas Karingal on Monday.
QCPD Director Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. said the project was created to serve as formidable circle of influence of students at Quezon City elementary schools and communities. They shall also be QCPD’s partners, advocates, and agents of change who will champion the cause of civic consciousness, social awareness, and commitment in their respective spheres of influence.
"Sa pamamagitanngproyektongito, tuturuan o gagabayannatinsilasapagsunodsamgabatas, mgaalituntunin o mgaordinansagayangsimplengpagtaponngbasurasatamangtapunan, pagsunodngbatastrapiko at magingpagsumbongngmgailigaltuladngdroga (Through this project, we will teach and guide them in following the law and ordinances such as the proper waste disposal, following traffic rules and reporting illegalities such as illegal drugs)," Esquivel said.
The District Community Affairs and Development Division (DCADD) under Police Supt. TeresitaEscamillan briefly taught the students on security and safety awareness as well as tips on environmental protection.
Students also toured the QCPD Integrated Command and Control Center (IC3) and Anti-cybercrime Team Office.
Esquivel said that students enrolled in the program will be given priority when recruited or admitted to government agencies such as Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), and Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
“Mas magandakasinabata pa lamangsila, maimumulatnanatinsilasamgatamangasal at kilos, upanglumakisilangresponsable at kapaki-pakinabang (It is better that at a young age, we already teach them proper values and manner for them to become responsible individuals)," Esquivel said. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
3 arrested in Pasay drug bust
Threeindividuals including two women were nabbed in a buy-bust operation by anti-narcotics operatives in Pasay City Monday night.
Police identified suspects as Jessica Camilla, Lorena Santos, and Jeremy Sapana. According to authorities, Sapanawas listed in the illegal drugs watchlist.
The drug sting operation was conducted by the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) at about 7 p.m. in Maricaban, Pasay City.
According to the report, a police poseur buyer was able to purchase P200 worth of shabu from the said suspects, resulting to their arrest.
Confiscated were 10 sachets of shabu worth P5,000 from Camilla as target of the operation..
Suspects were then brought to the SDEU and will be chargedwith violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 before the Pasay City Prosecutor's Office. (Dhel Nazario)
Man stabbed to death by neighbor
A 56-year-old man died when stabbed by his neighbor after a heated argument ensued between them early yesterday morning in Pasay City.
Police identified the victim as Antonio Otanez, a resident of Mapagmahal St., Barangay 181 Zone 19, Pasay City. He suffered lone stabbed wound in the chest and died on the spot.
The suspect, identified as Jaime Pagula, immediately fled after the incident and went into hiding.
Investigation showed the incident happened at about 4:00 a.m., a few meters away from the house of the victim.
According to report, the two were seen arguing with each other and few minutes later, the suspect pulled out a fan knife and stabbed the victim once in the chest.
The police is now conducting investigation to determine the motive of the killing and a follow-up operation for the arrest of the suspect. (Jean Fernando)
Body of drowned 13-year-old recovered in Tullahan River
Hours after finding the bodies of his two friends, authorities retrieved the body of the last victim who went missing after falling in a creek in Valenzuela City on Tuesday afternoon, September 18.
Members of the Valenzuela Rescue Team and Philippine Coast Guard found the body of Rheniel Tejadilla, 13, resident at Marulas, Valenzuela at Tullahan River at about 3:50 p.m., police said.
The bodies of Jillian Salud, 10; and Kerby Tajadilla, 8; both residents at Marulas, Valenzuela City were also found at the river before dawn.
On Sunday afternoon, September 16, the three victims, together with two other kids, were swimming on a creek when they sunk at the muddy portion of the river.
Rowel Sanggalang, 27, backhoe operator, resident of the area, managed to rescue two kids, who police identified as Joshua Casino, 11; and Jericho Balla, 9; both residents of the area.
Sanggalang was not able to rescue the three victims, and informed authorities of the incident. Search and rescue operations were then launched.
