The closure of the Old Sta. Mesa Bridge in Manila will push through this week after its postponement last Saturday due to the inclement weather, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Monday.
(MANILA BULLETIN)
MMDA task force operations head Bong Nebrija said that the bridge, which connects the cities of San Juan and Manila, will be demolished so that barges carrying the equipment for the Skyway Stage 3 project can pass through the waterway.
Nebrija said the Old Sta. Mesa Bridge will be closed for seven months.
According to the MMDA, at least 8,000 motorists are using the Old Sta. Mesa Bridge daily. Those who will park their vehicles in alternate routes from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. will be fined with P500.
Nebrija said the agency’s personnel has been clearing F. Manalo Street or G. Araneta/Aurora Boulevard, Libiran, Boni Ave., and F. Blumentritt Ave. of obstructions regularly since heavy traffic is expected in the area once the rehabilitation of the infrastructures begin.
He also said the agency installed signages to guide motorists.
