The law, which amends RA 9727 that organized the province in the current seven districts, makes General Trias City a lone district and thereby becoming new 6th district of Cavite.
The seventh district of Cavite will now be composed of Trece Martires City, Indang, Tanza, and Amadeo.
The new eighth district includes Tagaytay City, Alfonso, General Aguinaldo, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic, and Ternate.
The law said the eight legislative districts of Cavite would commence “on the next national and local elections.”
“The incumbent Representatives of the Sixth and Seventh Legislative Districts of the Province of Cavite shall continue to represent their respective legislative districts until the new Representative shall have been elected and qualified,” the law read.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has also been directed to issue the rules and regulations within 30 days upon approval of the new law.
The law takes effect 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette or newspaper.
At present, the first legislative district consists of Cavite City, Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario.
Bacoor City is the second legislative district, Imus City the third district, and Dasmariñas City the fourth district.
The fifth legislative district includes Carmona, General Mariano Alvarez and Silang.
