National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (NDRRMC) Executive Director Ricardo Jalad and local officials inaugurated the P36-million evacuation center in Poblacion East, here, last Friday.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Director Melchito Castro said the facility can accommodate at least distressed 1,000 residents.
Calasiao Mayor Joseph Bauzon and Vice Mayor Mahadeva Das Mesina in their short messages thanked the concerned agencies for helping this municipality and choosing it as one of the places for a regional evacuation center.
It will be recalled that all 24 barangays of Calasiao were submerged during the onslaught of monsoon rains and typhoons last July and August.
