Barangay chairman gunned down in Agusan del Sur town

By Mike Crismundo BUTUAN CITY – A barangay chairman in a town in Agusan del Sur was gunned down Thursday night by unidentified gunmen along a barangay road in Purok 1, barangay Cabantao in the town of Rosario, a sketchy report reaching the police regional headquarters here on Friday stated. (PIXABAY/ MANILA BULLETIN) (PIXABAY/ MANILA BULLETIN) A flash report received by the regional command and tactical operations center of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) based at Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez here from Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the victim as Teotemio C. Saday, 39, barangay chairman of barangay Cabantao, Rosario. He was immediately brought to San Francisco Doctors Hospital in the town of San Francisco for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. Initial investigation conducted by the Rosario Municipal Police Station (MPS) disclosed that at 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, Taday, along with a companion, were on board an Isuzu Crosswind car heading towards his residence in barangay Cabantao when unidentified suspects suddenly came out along the side of the road and shot them several times using unknown caliber firearms, hitting different parts of their bodies. “The suspects (with no specific number of perpetrators based on the initial report from Rosario MPS) immediately fled to an unknown direction after the incident on board a single motorcycle,” said the PRO 13 Regional Public Information Office (RPIO), quoting the initial report from Agusan del Sur PPO. Responding police force recovered in the crime scene 7 fired cartridge cases and one fired bullet, believed to be of .45 caliber pistol, it said. As of this posting, Rosario MPS is still conducting an investigation to determine the motive of the incident and identities of the perpetrators, PRO 13-RPIO added. The companion of the slain barangay chairman is reportedly out of danger in the same hospital, it also said. It was gathered that the slain barangay chairman had just attended a forum on federalism in Butuan City that same day when the shooting incident happened.
