The Manila Bulletin learned that Ferdinand Dela Vega Jr., Ralph Emmanuel Camaya, and Justine Manipus had asked the Court to grant them bail for kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention cases.
The Court set the hearing for the said petition on October 5 and 31, November 7, and December 12, all at 8:30 a.m. during their arraignment on August 24 where they entered a not guilty plea.
On August 1, a group of students including Dela Vega, Camaya, and Manipus abducted Gomez and his classmate Jhulius Atabay while waiting for a bus near Light Rail Transit (LRT) – 1 Central Station.
Atabay was released and served as middle person in the ransom negotiations reaching P30 million with Gomez’s family.
Authorities soon discovered that Atabay was the mastermind of the crime.
The Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) rescued Gomez on August 6 inside a small room at 285 Nava Street, Barangay 132 in Balut, Tondo, Manila.
