 Two acid attack suspects arrested Two suspects of an acid attack that injured a security guard were nabbed by police on Sunday at Valenzuela City. Police identified the victim as Edwin Retreta Odavar, 36, security guard, native of Nabua, Camarines Sur, and resident of Dulong Tangke, Malinta, Valenzuela City. The victim suffered burns on his left eye and mouth and was rushed to Fatima University Medical Center on MacArthur Highway, Valenzuela City after the attack. Arrested were Vicente Yape Sumeguin, 49, resident of Marilao, Bulacan; and Benny Romero Alarcon, 52, native of Bicol, resident of Valenzuela City; both factory workers. The three work for the same company. According to a police report, Odavar was walking home along San Francisco Street, Karuhatan, Valenzuela City after finishing his shift at about 6:30 a.m. Suddenly, Sumeguin appeared and threw caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) at the victim. The suspects then fled on a black and gold Suzuki Raider 150 motorcycle driven by Alarcon toward MacArthur Highway. Later, Sumeguin was arrested near the crime scene after a security guard informed the police of his appearance. Alarcon was arrested in a follow-up operation. Police Officer 3 Regor Germedia said the suspects were angry at the victim for repeatedly reprimanding them about sleeping while on the job and using their cellphones, which are violations of company policy. Retrieved from the suspects were 300 ml bottle containing the caustic soda used on the victim and the getaway motorcycle. A case of Serious Physical Injuries will be filed against the suspects, police said. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco) Man shot dead by unknown gunman A man was gunned down by an unidentified assailant on Sunday night in Navotas City. Police identified the victim as Luigi Baron, 21, resident of 1935 Monteloyula, Barangay San Roque, Navotas City. Investigation showed the victim was being followed by the suspect while he was riding a bicycle along Leongson Street, Extension, Barangay San Roque, Navotas City. The gunman fired shots on the victim’s head then fled on foot toward an unknown location. The victim was rushed to Navotas City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. A sachet containing suspected marijuana and an empty shell of undetermined caliber were recovered from the crime scene. Investigation and pursuit operations against the suspect are ongoing, police said. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco) Bloated body of unknown man found floating in water of port area, Tondo The bloated body of a still unidentified man was found floating in the water of Port Area, Tondo, Manila on Sunday, police said. According to Port Police Aldwin Concepcion, the victim’s body was found in the water of Berthing 3 by the crew of the Moreta Cargo-1 ship along Pier 16, Port Area in Tondo Manila at about 5:10 p.m. Police said the victim, described as about 40 to 50 years old, 5’8” to 5’9” tall, fair complexioned, medium built, was clad in black t-shirt and green short pants when found. Meanwhile, Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide chief Senior Insp. .Rommel Anicete said that the body was swept away by water current near the Port Area. Anicete added that the body showed no sign of physical injury. SPO3 Jonathan Bautista of the MPD Homicide Section said they already conducted an inquiry within the place but no one recognized the victim. The body was brought to Cruz Funeral Homes for autopsy and safekeeping. (Erma Edera) Two dealers of drug syndicate arrested in buy-bust ops yielding P5M worth of drugs Two alleged dealers of an illegal drug syndicate were arrested in a buy-bust operation, yielding around P5 million worth of suspected drugs in Malate, Manila on Sunday. The police identified the suspects as Patrick Baltazar, male, 23, single, jobless, resident of Villaruel Street in Pasay City and Angelica Decena, female, 21, single, jobless, resident of Laging Handa Street In Pasay City. Investigation showed that Manila Police District (MPD) Station Drug Enforcement Team led by Senior Insp. Ildefonso Quilang conducted the buy-bust operation in front of a restaurant located at the service road of Roxas Boulevard, at around 4:50 p.m. MPD Station 5 (PS-5) commander Supt. Igmedio Bernaldez said the suspects, who were co-workers, are being withheld pending investigation to identify the other members of the syndicate as well as the source of the drugs they peddle. The suspects were hard to be found since they don’t have a luxurious lifestyle, he added. Recovered from them were 700 grams of suspected shabu placed in eight transparent plastic sachets with an estimated value of five million pesos. The suspect will be facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Meanwhile, MPD also reported the roundup of several individuals for violating laws and city ordinances from 5 a.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday. Some 143 individuals were placed under police custody in Raxabago, Sampaloc, Ermita, Sta. Ana, and Jose Abad. Most of those were caught half-naked in public, drinking liquor outside, or violating the smoking ban. (Erma Edera) 18-year-old drug pusher arrested in Taguig sting Anti-narcotics police arrested an 18-year-old drug pusher in a buy-bust operation at Barangay Maharlika, Taguig City yielding more or less 60 grams of shabu worth P400,000, a police belated report said. The suspect was identified by police as Alan Ali alias "Aldrin," a resident of Cagayan de Oro St., Bahay Pagkakaisa, Brgy. Maharlika, Taguig City. Investigation showed that joint elements of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit National Capital Region Police Office (RDEU-NCRPO), the Taguig City Police, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a buy bust operation at Lot-49, Blk-14, Sultan Kudarat St., Brgy. Maharlika, Taguig City. At 8:30 p.m., Ali, in behalf of the target of the said drug operation identified only as an alias "Ismirah" appeared to negotiate with the RDEU operative who acted as a poseur buyer. The police officer was able to purchase five grams of shabu worth P15,000 placed in a transparent plastic sachet resulting in the arrest of the suspect. During the arrest, police also recovered another knot-tied transparent ice plastic bag together with six pieces of heat-sealed small transparent plastic sachets of shabu from the suspect including the buy-bust money. Subsequently, the arrested suspect and the seized pieces of evidence were immediately brought to the RDEU office for investigation and proper disposition for submission to the Crime Laboratory Office for technical examination. Criminal cases for violation of Section 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act.9165 are being prepared for filing against Ali. (Dhel Nazario) P35,000 worth of fake money bills seized from two suspects in QC A total of P35,100 worth of alleged fake money bills were confiscated from two suspects in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City yesterday. Suspects identified by the police as Frederick Baro, 20, a driver and Mary Jane Villa Hermosa, 45, a businesswoman, both from Valenzuela City. Reports said the two were buying motor oil at a motor shop in this city when the complainant noticed that the suspects used fake money bills to pay the items. The complainant then reported the incident to the personnel of Batasan Police Station 6 (PS-6). Reports said responding authorities conducted an immediate follow-up operation leading to the arrest of Baro and Villa Hermosa. Recovered from the suspects are 33 pieces of fake P1,000 bills, three pieces of fake P500 bills, three pieces of fake P200 bills and a vehicle with no plate number. Police Supt. Joel Villanueva, PS-6 station commander, said in a text message: "Laganap na kumakalat ngayon ang mga pekeng pera lalo na paparating na naman ang pasko (Fake money is being circulated nowadays since Christmas is coming)." He added that they are intensifying the campaign against people who take advantage of this situation. He also said they are enhancing their intelligence gathering to identify the syndicate behind these incidents. Villanueva is also asking the support and coordination of the public to report any information regarding those people who manufacture and disseminate fake currency. Baro and Villa Hermosa will face charges for swindling and for violation of Republic Act 7653. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas) 3 robbery suspects involved in series of robberies in ‘e-games’ arrested Three robbery suspects including a barangay kagawad who were allegedly involved in a series of robbery incidents in e-games establishments in Metro Manila, and nearby provinces were arrested by the Quezon City police, while a manhunt is on against their leader who was a dismissed Caloocan policeman. National Capital Region Police Director Guillermo Eleazar and Quezon City Police District Director, Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. identified the arrested suspects as Noli Balistoy, known as "Hammer," 40; Reyford Reniola, known as "Kia," 27, both residents of Caloocan City, and Raynier Reyes, known as "BMW," 34, an incumbent village councilor of Barangay 59, Zone 5 in Manila City. Eleazar said the group was tagged as suspects behind robbing 13 e-gaming establishments in NCR, as well as in Rizal, Laguna, and Bulacan since January this year. In a press briefing at the QCPD Headquarters in Camp Karingal, Eleazar said personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit received a telephone call at around 6 p.m. Thursday from a confidential informant who told them that the suspects who robbed an e-games establishment on Mindanao Avenue in May were seen near an e-games establishment again at the corner of EDSA and Congressional Avenue onboard a white Toyota Vios with plate number ASA 4950. Operatives were immediately dispatched and upon arriving at the scene, they saw Reyes with a gun protruding on his waistline. The suspects apparently sensed the responding police officers who were about to arrest them prompting them to quickly board their vehicle and sped away resulting in a car chase. Pursuing policemen were able to corner the suspects who tried to hide inside a subdivision in Barangay 82, Caloocan City. Seized from the suspects were three loaded caliber .38 Armscor revolvers, two 9 MM Rock Island Armory pistols, a black backpack containing brown short pants, white shirt, and red cap, four bull caps, a black sling bag containing several identification, and several face masks, and their getaway vehicle. The leader of the group identified as Vladimir Binayug, known as "Mustang," a former Caloocan policeman and a certain Nomer Cristobal managed to escape and is now the subject of a manhunt operation. It appears that Binayug, who was charged with frustrated murder, was arrested for Indiscriminate firing in 2003 before he was dismissed from the service in January 2004. He was previously detained in National Bilibid Prison for homicide and was released in 2015 after serving his sentence then formed the group, police said. Meanwhile, reports also showed that Reyes was previously detained at the Manila City Jail for robbery snatching from 2000 to 2002 and was released on probation. Esquivel said further investigation disclosed that the group were also responsible in robbing 13 establishments wherein they stole at least P1 million worth of cash and belongings. The suspects are now under police custody while charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition with P200,000 bail, and illegal possession of explosives were recommended before Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office and robbery before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan) Man who almost killed his neighbor apprehended in Pasig City A man, who almost killed his neighbor over a heated argument last year, was apprehended by authorities in Pasig City Sunday afternoon, a belated report said. Police identified the suspect as Tanorio Miday, 44, of Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig. Armed with an arrest warrant issued by Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 71 Judge Elisa Sarmiento-Flores, policemen nabbed Miday in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig around 4 p.m. Miday is facing a frustrated murder rap. In April 2017, Miday and his neighbor had a heated argument while they were having a drinking binge at Cabrera Compound in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig. After a few minutes, probers said, it went physical. The suspect reportedly took a knife and stabbed his neighbor several times in the body, resulting in his critical condition. Miday is now behind bars at the Pasig police headquarters' detention cell. (Jel Santos) Assorted jewelry, cash stolen by unknown suspect who broke into house of senior couple Assorted jewelry and cash amounting to P300,000 were allegedly stolen by an unidentified suspect who broke into a house of a senior couple in Provident Village, Barangay Jesus Dela Peña, Marikina City early morning Sunday. The victims were identified as Francisco Tabora Sr., 74, and Rosario Tabora, 76. According to Marikina City Police Insp. Greco Gonzales, Francisco Tabora reported the incident at around 6 a.m. to the authorities of the Police Community Precinct 2 (PCP-2) after they found out that the house’s kitchen door was forcibly opened an hour after they came back from the market. Police report also revealed that other items inside the couple’s house were also in disarray..
