LEGAZPI CITY, Albay - Albayanos commemorated on Sunday the 153rd birth anniversary of General Simeon Ola, recognized as the last Filipino general to surrender to American forces.

In his hometown in Guinobatan, Albay, the local government unit held a wreath laying at his shrine after a Holy Mass at Guinobatan Church.
General Simeon Ola was born in Guinobatan, Albay on Septembee 2, 1865.
He took upPhilosophy at University of Nueva Caceres in Naga City.
But in 1896, he joined the local branch of Katipunan and later become a leader.
At Camp General Simeon Ola, the commemorative rite was graced by the laste Gen. Ola’s niece, Edna Ola Pallan.
"For centuries, heroes were recognized after death. But, I may say that we can change this view of life. Even in life we can be heroes, to our family and friends, to our neighborhoods and countrymen. Doing your duties, performing your responaibilities, protecting our nation, that makes you our heroes of today," Ola - Pallan said.
