Culture of creativity in 109th Baguio City Day

By Zaldy Comanda BAGUIO CITY – Developing a culture of creativity in recognition of the city’s designation as a Creative City in the field of Crafts and Folk Art by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will be a key focus in the 109th Charter Day Anniversary celebrations on September 1 and in the coming days thereafter. (Google Maps / MANILA BULLETIN) Mayor Mauricio Domogan said this year’s theme, ‘Celebrating and Moving Beyond 109 through Culture of Creativity,’ is timely to highlight the city’s feat as the first Philippine city to make it to the prestigious global creative circle. City Councilor Elmer Datuin and City Administrator Carlos Canilao, said various activities are being prepared for the whole month of September for the celebration. Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar Dulay, a Baguio City native, will be the guest speaker in the traditional program to be held at the Baguio City National High School gymnasium. The program will be highlighted by the awarding of the top ten outstanding citizens chosen by the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB). The awardees will be revelaed by Domogan today. A colorful parade to feature tableau presentations to showcase the City’s evolution will be staged after the program. Traditional activities include the Miss, Mr. and Little Miss Baguio pageants, the Baguio Day health fair and job fair, concerts, cultural shows and various sports events. Datuin said a five - day arts and crafts fair is being prepared to feature the arts and crafts products of small and medium arts enterprises possibly at the Malcolm Square. Senior Tourism Operations Officer Jose Maria Rivera said activities lined up include One Baguio Festival 2018 from August 31 to September 2 at Scout Barrio; Eigasai 2018 Japanese Film Festival (August 31 and September 9 at the St. Louis University CCA); Hobby Exposure Convention Baguio 2018, (September 1, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the PFVR Gym); 1st Pugsat-Anges Highland Challenge (September 1, 8 a..m. at Lake Drive); Baguio Day afternoon mass (September 1, 5 p.m. Our Lady of the Atonement); SHAYONNEY: The Baguio Day Fashion Show 2018 (September 1, 5 p.m. at the City Lights Hotel).
