CAMP BANCASI. Butuan City – More Communist New People’s Army Terrorists (CNTs) voluntarily surrendered to field Army troops in Bukidnon province, claimed chief of Civil Military Operation (CMO) office of the Army’s 403rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade Capt. Norman M. Tagros to The Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
(MANILA BULLETIN)
In a statement, Tagros said three armed CNTs belonging to Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad and Militia ng Bayan of the CPP-NPA Guerilla Front 68 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee voluntarily gave themselves up and also yielded their caliber 30 M2 Carbine rifle, 30 M1 Garand rifle, M79 grenade launcher and assorted live ammunitions.
“They (CNTs) separately voluntarily gave themselves up to the troops of the 1st Special Forces Battalion (1st SFBn) on Saturday and Sunday and pledged to support the government’s peace and development program,” Tagros said.
The three CNTs were officially presented yesterday to Brig. Gen. Eric C. Vinoya, commanding general of the 403rd “Peacemaker” Brigade at the headquarters of the 403rd Brigade in Camp Osito Bahian, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon province.
The new surrenderers, identified only as Certain “Milit,” “Bugoy” and “Jordan” (true name withheld for their safety and security) are still under investigation and debriefing, in preparation of their enrollment to the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).
“A total of 9 CNTs surrendered to field troops last week and these rebel returnees all experienced the same false promises and deception of the CPP-NPA Terrorists leaders such as financial and food support for their families that were never fulfilled,” Tagros said.
Meanwhile, Vinoya continued his encouragement to the remaining CNTs who are still in the mountains to come down and lay down their arms to avail of the government’s ECLIP program.
“We would like to reassure our brothers and sisters who still remain deceived by the CPP-NPA leaders that the government puts premium on their welfare and well-being when they decide to embrace peace and go back to the folds of the law through the ECLIP,” Vinoya said.
“They should avail of the benefits of this program now or else they will continue to suffer from hunger and hardships in the mountains as we will have no letup in our focused military operations against this terrorist group,” Vinoya in the same statement sent to The Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
